Shopee Product & Design Challenge 2021

INTRODUCTION
This is a two weeks design challenge from Shopee. The task is to find the most critical issue from the current Shopee App. Below explains the process of how I identify the issue and the solutions I provided to solve the issue.

ABOUT

Shopee is the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia.

Shopee was first launched in Singapore in 2015, and later expanded to Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Brazil.

It serves users who are willing to buy and sell their products online platform.

It offers a wide selection of products from groceries to electronics, home supplies & beauty, fashion and fitness equipment, etc.

RESEARCH GOAL

To identify the problems that significantly impact Shopee app user experience.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

With 90% of people in Southeast Asia and Taiwan connecting to the internet mainly via mobile, many features and initiatives on Shopee are designed for mobile. Taking into consideration Shopee’s current initiatives on its mobile app in the respective markets and the local consumers behavior.

DESIGN PROCESS : DISCOVER

We have adopted the following research methods: -

a) Competitive Benchmarking

We have looked into few competitors (Amazon, Grailed, Taobao and Lazada) platforms by analyze the UX, UI and key features.

Four Competitors which is Amazon, Grailed, Taobao and Lazada

b) User Interviews

We have interview 8 participants who are Shopee Users.​​

Questions asked as follows: -

  1. What is your favorite shopping platform?
  2. Share your experience of buying online?
  3. What do you think about shopee?
  4. What you like about online shopping?
  5. What you dislike about online shopping?

c) Usability Testing

We have invited 3 participants who are actively engaged with Shopee.

After taking into consideration on our research analysis, we have decided to focus in improving Shopee to a more user and product-friendly homepage and content interaction.

Buyer & Seller mode

Goal : -

- To promote a more friendly , reliable and seamless interface.

- To facilities buyer/seller to change setting easily, reduce the user confusion by grouping all the top priority functions in the relevant settings.

Shopee Voucher and coins

Goal:-

- To make potential users to be loyal customers

- Shopee voucher and coins is user’s favorite. We decided to put it under My rewards and voucher wallet so it’s easier for user to locate and make use of it.

Conclusion

Digitalization has become part and parcel of today’s development. Not to mention that e-commerce platform has become more common in our daily activities. In order for Shopee to continue being the preferred e-commerce platform in the region and keep engaging the local consumers, the rule of simplicity shall put in priority. It needs to make the buying and selling experience on the app as easy and seamless as possible.
